Customers are always eager to know how long a new boiler installation will take. After all, it is a job that causes a little bit of disruption to your home, your central heating and hot water supply.
The thing is, there is no straightforward answer to this one. We aim to install new boilers as quickly as possible because we want to make the process as easy and as stress-free as possible for our customers, but how long it will take depends on a number of factors.
A straightforward like-for-like swap, where a similar boiler replaces a boiler in exactly the same place will take anywhere between four and six hours. It is the most straightforward installation. All that is required is isolating and draining the system, disconnecting the electricity supply, removing the old boiler and putting the new boiler in its place before reconnecting it all.
Faulty boilers
Sometimes, replacing a faulty boiler is an excellent opportunity to relocate it. Perhaps you need more space or are changing the function of a room. Whatever the reason, it is a much bigger job than a simple swap and is going to take longer than a day. Your plumber will need to install new pipework for water and gas, new electric and thermostat cables and some minor structural work may need carrying out, especially if new flues and overflow need to go through the brickwork. On top of this, there is also the dismantling of the old boiler to take into consideration.
New boilers
Some people, when having a new boiler installation, will use the opportunity to upgrade from a standard boiler to a combi boiler. This takes a couple of days because as well as installing the new one, tanks and cylinders that are no longer needed need to be dismantled and removed, which can take a considerable amount of time.
As you can see, how long a boiler installation will take has no straightforward answer. It can be anything from a few hours to three or four days, depending on the type of replacement you go for and whether you keep it in the same place.
